Macquarie home loans can be split into separate loan accounts, each with its own offsets and redraw. Here is what Macquarie's website says about each feature, and what to check before you recycle.
Macquarie does not sell a debt recycling loan, but its home loans can be split into separate loan accounts with no split fee.
Each Macquarie offset links to one variable loan account, so savings can sit against the home portion only.
According to Macquarie's help centre, a loan account paid down to zero does not close automatically.
Redraw is free online on variable loan accounts, but not available during a fixed rate period.
Borrowing beyond your current limit needs a credit assessment, and we confirm Macquarie's current policy before any application.
Can You Debt Recycle With Macquarie
Often, yes. Macquarie does not sell a product called a debt recycling loan, and its website does not mention the strategy. It does offer the loan features the strategy relies on.
According to Macquarie's website (November 2026), you can divide your loan limit into multiple loan accounts, each with its own loan purpose, rate type and repayment type. If the strategy is new to you, start with how debt recycling works.
That separation matters for tax. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) says only interest incurred for an income-producing purpose is deductible, and interest on borrowing used for both private and income-producing purposes must be apportioned.
Debt Recycling Loans is not affiliated with Macquarie. Macquarie is one of 40+ lenders on our panel. Lender policy changes, so we confirm Macquarie's current policy before any application.
Macquarie Loan Features That Matter
Macquarie's comparison page sets out two home loans, the Basic Home Loan and the Offset Home Loan. According to Macquarie's website (November 2026), they compare like this on the features recycling uses.
Feature
Basic Home Loan
Offset Home Loan
Split loan fee

$0
Loan accounts

Up to six at settlement, unlimited after
Offset accounts
Not offered
Up to 10 per variable loan account
Redraw

Variable rate accounts, $0 fee
Ongoing fee

Each investment tranche needs its own loan account, so the number of accounts you can hold shapes how you recycle over time. We map how the splits are structured before any money moves.
Separate Offsets Per Account
Macquarie's help centre says one offset account can't be linked to several loan accounts, but you can open separate offsets for each variable loan account. Offsets can't be linked to a fixed rate loan account.
That lets your savings sit against the non-deductible home loan account only, where they reduce interest you can't claim.
Paid-Down Splits Stay Open
Macquarie's help centre says a loan account split won't automatically close when you pay its balance down to zero. A common method pays a split down with cash, then redraws the same amount from it to invest, so the split needs to stay open.
In our $350K share portfolio case study, a couple refinanced to Macquarie. Three months later they recycled a further $80,000 through Macquarie's online chat, with no new application.
Free Online Redraw
Macquarie's product guide says there are no fees or approval required to redraw through Macquarie Online. Its help centre adds that the amount available may be reduced by your next scheduled repayment.
Paying redrawn funds straight from the investment loan account to the investment keeps the purpose of that borrowing clear.
Checks Before You Start
Run through these points on your current Macquarie loan. Your loan documents or the Macquarie app answer most of them.
Which product you hold. The Basic Home Loan has no offset accounts.
Which loan accounts are fixed. Redraw isn't available until the fixed period ends, extra repayments are capped at $10,000 a year per fixed loan account, and break costs may apply.
Your Bank State Branch (BSB) number. Macquarie's help centre says loans with a BSB starting 183 typically can't change loan purpose, and borrowing more needs a new facility.
The minimum split size. On the Offset Home Loan, the variable rate loan account must have a limit of at least $20,000.
How a purpose change works. Macquarie handles a change from owner occupied to investment through live chat, and its product guide says rate discounts depend partly on loan purpose.
Whether you need new money. Borrowing more is subject to a credit assessment, and Macquarie's help centre refers you to your broker.
Staying With Macquarie or Refinancing
Macquarie's website says existing customers can split their current loan. If your loan is variable and on the right product, changing lender may not be needed.
Some changes are bigger. Macquarie decides whether a change can be made as a variation or needs an internal refinance, which closes your current facility and opens a new one. Its help centre says existing offsets are then converted to transaction accounts or closed, depending on the BSB, and can only be relinked after the new loan settles.
If you're with another lender and Macquarie's features suit your plan, moving is a new application with its own costs. Our page on refinancing for debt recycling covers what to weigh.
How We Help With Macquarie
We compare 40+ lenders, including Macquarie, so staying put is weighed against moving. We start by reviewing how your loan accounts are set up and what each has been used for.
Then we map the splits, place the offsets on the home account and confirm Macquarie's current policy before anything is lodged. You can see what working with Alex involves before a first call.
We arrange the lending only. Your financial adviser recommends investments and your accountant advises on deductibility, and we work alongside both.
The Bottom Line
Macquarie's published features line up with what debt recycling needs: separate loan accounts with no split fee, offsets that link to one account each, free online redraw and splits that stay open at zero.
The details that decide your plan sit in your own loan, such as fixed accounts, your BSB and whether you need new borrowing. A review of your current structure shows whether staying with Macquarie works or a change is worth costing.

No product is sold under that name, and Macquarie's website does not mention debt recycling. The strategy runs on its standard home loans, using separate loan accounts and redraw.
Yes, according to Macquarie's help centre. Each offset links to one variable loan account, and you can open separate offsets for each variable account.
Macquarie's help centre says a loan account split won't automatically close at a zero balance. We confirm how this applies to your loan before any funds move.
Not necessarily. The Basic Home Loan also allows multiple loan accounts and free redraw on variable accounts, but it has no offsets. The Offset Home Loan adds offsets for a $248 annual fee, according to Macquarie's website (November 2026).
No. Macquarie says redraw isn't available during a fixed rate period, and extra payments made in that time become available when the fixed period ends.
Macquarie's product guide says redrawing through Macquarie Online needs no fee or approval. Borrowing more than your current limit is subject to a credit assessment.
