AMP publishes its own debt recycling explainer and offers a Master Limit that holds several sub-accounts under one limit. Here is what AMP's website says, and what to check first.
AMP's own website describes debt recycling as a high-risk strategy and suggests seeking financial advice first.
An AMP Master Limit holds up to 10 sub-accounts under one limit, with a variable rate line of credit as the primary account.
Within the approved limit, AMP's loan conditions generally let you resize, add or close sub-accounts without a new loan assessment.
Any increase to the Master Limit needs a full credit assessment, and AMP may reduce or cancel the limit.
Offsets can't be linked to a line of credit or fixed rate loan, so savings belong against a variable home sub-account.
Can You Debt Recycle With AMP
Often, yes. AMP publishes its own debt recycling explainer, and its home loans can be split into separate accounts for home and investment borrowing.
AMP's loan conditions (December 2025) say you may ask for your loan to be split into facilities at any time after settlement. For borrowers who plan to recycle in stages, AMP also offers a Master Limit. If you're new to the strategy, start with our debt recycling guide.
Debt Recycling Loans is not affiliated with AMP. AMP is one of 40+ lenders on our panel. Lender policy changes, so we confirm AMP's current policy before any application.
What AMP Says About Risk
AMP's explainer describes debt recycling as a strategy that aims to help you pay off non-deductible debt. It calls it high-risk, because you are using borrowed money to invest.
AMP lists what you need before starting:
A home loan with equity
Regular income to cover the investment loan interest
A long-term outlook and tolerance for short-term market falls
Willingness to take on more debt
Possibly income protection insurance
AMP also says interest on investment loans is typically tax deductible. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is more precise: only interest incurred for an income-producing purpose is deductible, and mixed-purpose borrowing must be apportioned.
AMP suggests financial advice to decide whether the strategy suits you. We arrange the lending, while your financial adviser recommends investments and your accountant advises on tax.
How AMP's Master Limit Works
AMP's website describes the Master Limit as an overall lending limit for your borrowing needs now and in the future, which can give flexibility to restructure debts. AMP's loan conditions and forms set out these rules:
Up to 10 sub-accounts sit under one limit.
The primary sub-account must be a variable rate line of credit, with a limit of at least $10,000.
For Master Limits applied for since 21 June 2016, sub-accounts can be increased, reduced, created or deleted without a new loan assessment, as long as the Master Limit doesn't increase.
Any change that increases the Master Limit needs a full credit assessment.
The maximum term on AMP's current application form is 10 years.
It is offered on the Professional Package and AMP First Home Loan, not on Land Loans, the Basic Package or the AMP Essential home loan.
Restructures are requested on a form signed by all borrowers and any guarantors.
For recycling, limit freed up as you pay down the home sub-account can be moved to an investment sub-account within the approved total.
In our $402K Master Limit case study, a couple set up a $1,000,000 Master Limit with a $402,000 initial investment split, on their financial planner's advice. The structure cost $324 a year more than their existing loan.
AMP Loan Features That Matter
AMP presents its Professional Package as its offset home loan. According to AMP's website (November 2026):
Feature
What AMP's Website Says
Offset accounts
Up to 10, linked to eligible variable rate loans
Offset exclusions
Lines of credit, fixed rate loans and the AMP Essential home loan
Redraw
Professional Package variable loans and lines of credit, not fixed rate loans
Fees
$415 annual fee, $0 redraw fee
Interest-only
Available for up to 10 years
The offset rules matter most. A line of credit can't carry an offset, so your savings need to sit against a variable home sub-account, where they reduce interest you can't claim.
Your package type. AMP Essential has no Master Limit and no offset.
Fixed sub-accounts. AMP says limits on fixed accounts can't be varied during the fixed period, and changing a fixed account's product type may trigger break costs.
The primary line of credit. If it closes without another line of credit replacing it, the Master Limit expires, and reinstating it needs a full application.
Unused limit. AMP's loan conditions say it may reduce or cancel the Master Limit at any time, so keep a cash buffer rather than relying on undrawn limit.
Interest-only terms. AMP's restructure form caps interest-only at 10 years over the life of the loan, ending no later than the Master Limit expiry.
Minimum sizes. The same form sets a $10,000 minimum limit for each account.
Older facilities. Master Limits applied for before 21 June 2016 have stricter rules on interest-only changes.
Staying With AMP or Refinancing
If you already have an AMP Professional Package loan, you may be able to add a Master Limit. AMP's website lists a $299 variation fee for adding one to an existing loan, subject to approval.
Without a Master Limit, you can still ask AMP to split your loan after settlement. Whether that is enough depends on how often you plan to recycle.
If you're with another lender, moving to AMP is a new application, and the lowest-cost loan may not have the features your plan needs. Our page on refinancing for debt recycling covers the costs to weigh.
How We Help With AMP
We compare 40+ lenders, including AMP, so a Master Limit is weighed against simpler split structures elsewhere. We review your current loan, map the sub-accounts and confirm AMP's current Master Limit rules before anything is lodged.
Where your financial adviser has recommended the strategy, we work from their plan and keep your accountant informed of each split's purpose. You can see what working with Alex involves before booking a call.
The Bottom Line
AMP describes debt recycling as high-risk and suggests advice first. On the lending side, its Master Limit lets limit move between sub-accounts without a new assessment, as long as the total doesn't grow.
The rules around the primary line of credit, fixed sub-accounts and limit increases decide whether it suits your plan. We confirm AMP's current policy and costs, and weigh them against other lenders, before you commit.
Check Whether a Master Limit Fits
Tell us about your current loan and plans, and we will show how an AMP structure compares with other lenders on our panel.
AMP publishes a debt recycling explainer that calls it a high-risk strategy and suggests seeking financial advice. On the lending side, AMP home loans can be split, and AMP's website says the Master Limit gives flexibility to restructure debts.
It is an overall lending limit that can hold up to 10 sub-accounts. The primary sub-account must be a variable rate line of credit with a limit of at least $10,000.
Not within the approved limit, for Master Limits applied for since 21 June 2016. AMP's loan conditions say any change that increases the Master Limit needs a full credit assessment.
No. AMP says lines of credit and fixed rate loans can't be linked to an offset account. Offsets link to eligible variable rate loans, up to 10 per loan.
AMP's website says a Master Limit can be added to an existing loan for a $299 variation fee, subject to approval. It isn't available on Land Loans, the Basic Package or the AMP Essential home loan.
The Master Limit expires immediately unless another line of credit replaces it as the primary sub-account. Reinstating it needs a full loan application.
