About This Example

A blank template is easier to use once you have seen one filled in. This example follows a fictional household for six months: a $50,000 lump-sum recycle, five monthly cycles of $2,000 and one distribution paid onto the home loan.

Every figure is round and illustrative. The point is the method. Each paydown, draw and income payment gets its own row and its own evidence, and the deductible balance always equals the money drawn to invest.

Use it alongside the blank debt recycling tracing ledger.

What Is Inside

How To Use It

  1. Read the opening row to see the starting splits.
  2. Follow each paydown into the matching draw and contract note.
  3. Check the totals row: paid off equals drawn equals the deductible balance.
  4. Compare the 30 June position with 1 January: total debt has not risen.
  5. Set up your own ledger the same way before your first draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

Income is paid onto the home split, which is non-deductible. It reduces private debt, not investment debt, so the deductible balance stays where it was. Only a draw to invest raises it, and only a principal repayment on an investment split lowers it.

A separate split for each round of investing gives it a clean start date and a clear record of what it bought. Keeping the $50,000 lump sum and the monthly program apart makes the trail easy for your tax agent to follow. How many splits suit you depends on your lender and plan.

No. Policies vary and change. Some lenders let paid-down limit move to an investment split without a new application, while others need a variation or credit assessment each time, which makes monthly cycles impractical. We check this before you decide how often to recycle.
